MEGÈVE IN WINTER

When the Mountains Turn white

In Megève, winter begins long before the first run down the slopes. Rooftops turn white, fireplaces are lit once more, and horses return to the village streets. Then comes the snow, transforming the fir trees, muffling the paths and opening up the mountains to skiers.

At the end of the pedestrian street, just a few steps from the ski lifts, the Saint-Georges welcomes back its favourite season.

From winter to summer, from summer to winter, the story continues.

The Saint-Georges under the snow

In the morning, ski boots make their way to the ski room before heading out onto the slopes. Back at the hotel, it's time for the wellness area and its Contrast Therapy, followed by a drink beside the fire at the Piano Bar Saint-Georges. As evening falls, the generous tables of Le Trappeur await.

And for days without skiing: the library, arcade room, board games, or simply watching the snow fall beyond the windows. At Saint-Georges, there is just as much to enjoy indoors as out.

Activities: WINTER ON YOUR DOORSTEP

DOWNHILL SKIING

Rochebrune, Mont d’Arbois, Jaillet… Megève offers access to the vast Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, with nearly 400 kilometres of slopes. The full ski area is scheduled to open on 19 December 2026, subject to snow conditions.

SNOWSHOEING

Through snow-covered forests and open clearings, snowshoe trails reveal another side of the mountains, at a slower pace, with Mont Blanc on the horizon. Guided excursions are available throughout the winter.

ICE SKATING IN THE HEART OF THE VILLAGE

Set on Place de la Résistance, the outdoor ice rink welcomes skaters back from 5 December. Glide beneath the open sky, right in the heart of Megève, until dusk.

WHAT TO DO IN MEGÈVE: THE SEASON’S CALENDAR

Winter in Megève begins as early as autumn. Alpine cuisine,
the first snowfall, and Christmas traditions set the pace before the ski slopes fully open.

16-18 OCTOBER 2026: TOQUICIMES

For three days, chefs, producers and artisans gather in Megève to celebrate mountain cuisine. Farmers' markets, masterclasses, competitions and tastings bring the ninth edition of the festival to life.

5 DECEMBER 2026: CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING

The moment that truly marks the beginning of the season. At 7:30 pm, the grand Christmas tree in the village square lights up, welcoming the festive season to Megève. A tradition that has been celebrated for more than fifty years.
